We've spent hours testing Garmin GPS watches for accuracy at tracks across southern California. For the full write-up, see our blog series: LITPro GPS Shootout.
The short version: any Garmin watch newer than 2022 is a safe bet. Newer models tend to carry the latest GPS chipset, which makes the biggest difference in accuracy — specifically, look for a watch with the MediaTek/Airoha AG3335M GPS chipset.
Since new Garmin models come out regularly, we may not always keep the list below perfectly current. Treat it as a helpful starting point rather than the full picture — a handful of watches we've specifically tested and can vouch for at the track:
- Forerunner 165
- Forerunner 255, 265, 955, 965
- Epix Gen2
- Fenix 7
- Tactix 7
- Edge 539, 540, 840, etc
