This article includes instructions to set up and operate your RaceBox Micro with the LITPro-GPS Lap Timer App.
1. Download the LITPro - GPS Lap Timer App from the App Store or Google Play
- Download the LITPro-GPS Lap Timer App for your preferred platform
- Create a new LITPro account or login to an existing one
2. Connecting the Micro to Power
Connecting to a power supply
The Micro requires 3.6V to 16V DC power to operate. This gives you a wide range of options for powering the Micro. Most modern motocross bikes that have electric start have a 5V or 10V wire in the wiring harness. If you are not comfortable working with electronics (specifically low power DC current electronics) then STOP. We recommend using the LITPro Modified Micro that includes a mounting kit and wiring to a 9V battery.
Using the LITPro Modified Micro
Using the LITPro Modified Micro is recommended for most users, especially if you don't have deep expertise in low-power DC electronics. See LITPro Modified Micro.
In stand-by mode (connected to power, but not recording and not wirelessly connected to your mobile) the Micro draws ~1mA of current. The 9V alkaline battery that comes with this kit will last around 23 days. It is recommended you disconnect from power when not riding.
In recording mode the Micro draws ~25mA of current. The 9V alkaline battery that comes with this kit will last ~22 hours. We recommend you change the battery about as frequently as most change their tires (around 10 to 15 hours).
Tips:
- Disconnect power from the Micro when not in use
- Change the battery every ~15 hours to be safe
3. Operating the Micro
Power On - Make sure your Micro is first connected to power, then connect to your Micro wirelessly via the LITPro App. See more detailed app instructions below. Do not use the button on the Micro.
Start/Stop Tracking - You must start and stop tracking from the LITPro App. The button on the Micro is untested for starting and stoping tracking in relation to all interactions with the LITPro app. It is recommended not to use the button. While in tracking mode the Micro consumes ~25mA.
To Power Off - Micro will enter standby mode, which reduces current consumption to 1mA when the unit is not in tracking mode, and is not connected to your mobile phone. To completely power off you must disconnect from the power supply. It is recommended you disconnect from the power supply when not riding.
Understanding the Micro Button
Don't use the physical button on the Micro. The LITPro app is required for starting and stoping the recording mode of the Micro.
Understanding the LEDs
Solid Blue LED - The device is powered on and connected to the LITPro App (if blinking blue the Micro is in recording mode but not connected to your mobile)
Solid Green LED - The device has a GPS fix
Solid Red LED - The device is recording (if blinking it is paused, for example while in SMART mode and you aren't moving)
Solid Purple LED - Out of memory (if blinking you are 90% full)
Caring for your Micro
- Micro is NOT waterproof or mud proof - It is your responsibility to mount the Micro where it is protected from water, mud and dirt. If you are unsure if the Micro will be protected in your desired mounting location you should thoroughly coat the Micro in some kind of sealant. There is no warranty on water-damaged Micros or Micros with any physical damage.
- Remove the Micro when washing the bike - Make sure not to get water on the Micro electronics.
4. Mounting the Micro
Ideal Mounting Locations & Suggestions
Ideal mounting locations for the Micro are any location where it can be adequately protected from water and mud, and where it has a direct view of the sky (with the antenna facing upward toward the sky).
Cut out holes in your bar pad (we used a foam cutter/hot knife cutter)
Mount the Micro and battery in the cut-out holes in the bar pad. Pictured is the Renthal Fatbar Pad.
Or cut out holes in a cross-bar pad. Pictured is the Renthal Twin Wall bar pad
Use the 3M Velcro strips that come with the LITPro Modified Micro to mount to the triple-clamp.
Use the 3M Velcro strips that come with the LITPro Modified Micro to mount to the frame between the gas tank and the steering.
Less Ideal Mounting Location (but still effective)
This location is less ideal, but still effective in our testing. It is less ideal because the antenna is facing forward instead of facing the sky. It has great shielding from water and mud however.
Use the 3M Velcro strips that come with the LITPro Modified Micro to mount to back of the number plate. NOTE: the antenna (brownish ceramic square visible here) should be facing forward, away from the rider and bike, not as pictured.
IMPORTANT TIP IF USING VELCRO STRIPS: Clean the mounting surface with 95% rubbing alcohol, contact cleaner, or equivalent before applying the adhesive tape to any surface. This will ensure good adhesion. SC1 is NOT a good cleaning agent; it is guaranteed to come off if you use that. If you fail to prepare the surface for the adhesive, the Micro will likely fall off, get damaged, or be lost.
Do NOT mount the Micro to a motocross bike frame directly without some vibration damping material such as the 3M Velcro strips that come with the LITPro Modified Micro. The vibration on the chassis of motocross bikes is too high for the plastics and elctronics and will break off.
It is your responsibility to mount the Micro where it is protected from water, mud and dirt. There is no warranty on water-damaged Micros or Micros with any physical damage.

About Manual Mode
In manual mode the RaceBox will only record data when you've explicitly started or ended recording from the LITPro App. This means if you connect and start recording from the app it will continue to record even if you stop moving for long periods of time and will continue recording until it is stopped or runs out of memory (around 2 hours and 10 minutes later). This mode is ideal for practicing gate drops, or any other kind of activity where recording at a dead stop is important.
In manual mode the LITPro app will still automatically split your sessions when you pause for more than 5 minutes or more (meaning if you stop moving).
The Micro can store a maximum of 2 hours and 10 minutes of actual ride time before running out of memory. When the Micro is out of memory it will stop recording until you sync it. Sync time for a completely full Micro is around 5 minutes total.
About SMART Mode
In SMART mode your RaceBox will automatically pause recording if you stop moving for more than 5 minutes, and automatically begin recording again when you resume moving. This means that you can start SMART mode when you arrive at the track, and end it when you are done for the day and you don't have to worry about running out of memory or having a long sync time.
In SMART mode the LITPro app will still automatically split your sessions when you pause for more than 5 minutes or more (meaning if you stop moving).
The Micro can store a maximum of 2 hours and 10 minutes of actual ride time before running out of memory. When the Micro is out of memory it will stop recording until you sync it. Sync time for a completely full Micro is around 5 minutes total.
To trigger a recording to start in SMART Mode:
- You must be moving at least 3MPH (4.8KPH)
- You must have a GPS fix (at least 4 GPS satellites must be visible to the RaceBox)
To trigger a recording to pause in SMART Mode:
- You must stop moving (less than 3MPH or 4.8KPH) for 30 seconds
To trigger a session to split in SMART Mode:
- You must stop moving (less than 3MPH or 4.8KPH) for 5 minutes or more
